Boise Valley Fly Fishers, Inc Present

Boise Valley Fly Fishers pays tribute to BVFF co-founder Will Godfrey.

Will turns 80 years young this year.

Tight Lines, Will!

Will Godfrey was born in 1938 and raised in Utah and Colorado.  His father taught him the finer points of fly fishing at an early age.  He honed his skills working at Bud Lilly's Trout Shop in West Yellowstone, Montana.  In 1967 he established the Will Godfrey Fly Fishing Centers at Last Chance, Max Inn on the Henry's Fork of the Snake River, and Boise, all in Idaho.  He was an outfitter and guide on the Henry's Fork, as well as all of the rivers in southwest Montana, and Yellowstone National Park for more than 20 years.  Will guided anglers for arctic char in Northwest Territory of Canada, for brook trout in river systems of Labrador, Canada, and for giant brown trout in South Island, New Zealand.

He served for 13 years as Director and Vice President of the Federation of Fly Fishers (FFI).  He was appointed Chairman of the Idaho Fish and Game Commission in the 1970's, and served as Chairman of the Pacific Marine Fisheries Commission.

Will was a founding member of the Boise Valley Fly Fishermen (BVFF).  He served as club president in 1972 and 1973.

Will is an accomplished writer, speaker, fly fisherman, fly tyer, and auctioneer.  His book Seasons of the Steelhead won the 2012 International Fly Fishing Book of the Year.  He has been honored with the Federation of Fly Fishers (FFF) Man of the Year Award, the FFF Presidential Award, the Eastern Idaho Fly Fishing Heritage Award, and the FFF Western Rocky Mountain Council Buck Goodrich Lifetime Achievement Award.

Will and his wife Sandra chase trout in the summer on the rivers of Idaho and Montana, and he indulges his passion for steelhead fly fishing on the Clearwater, Grande Ronde, and Snake Rivers.
